Greenbaum Olbrantz LLP, along with two co-counsel firms, was appointed lead counsel for plaintiffs in the Coinbase Customer Data Security Breach Litigation after contested leadership applications. The consolidated class action alleges that Coinbase and its India-based vendor, TaskUs, allowed customer data to be compromised and cryptocurrency theft to occur due to security flaws. The order appointing GO Law and its co-counsel to lead the case can be viewed here.
Have You Been Affected?
Despite indications that Coinbase became aware of the breach as early as January 2025, it waited until May 14, 2025, to notify affected consumers—months after the breach was first detected. By that time, information including names, email addresses, phone numbers, partial Social Security numbers, bank account details, government-issued ID images, and account transaction data had allegedly already been compromised and, in some cases, distributed to malicious actors.
Coinbase users entrust the company with highly sensitive financial and identity information. When that trust is broken through negligence or delayed disclosure, the consequences for consumers can be severe—including identity theft, fraud, lost time, and significant anxiety.
GO Law represents numerous claimants who allege Coinbase:
- Failed to implement reasonable security safeguards for customer data;
- Delayed notification in violation of state and federal law;
- Broke its privacy promises and Terms of Service; and
- Is liable under various state consumer protection statutes.
If you received a data breach notice from Coinbase, or believe your information was compromised, you may be entitled to monetary compensation or injunctive relief.
