GO Law represents the plaintiff in Estrada v. TaskUs, Inc. (S.D.N.Y. Case No. 1:25-cv-04409), a putative class action against TaskUs, Inc., a third-party vendor that provided outsourced customer support services to Coinbase, Inc. The complaint, filed in the Southern District of New York, alleges that TaskUs failed to implement reasonable safeguards to protect consumer data, leading to a serious and preventable data breach.
According to the complaint, rogue TaskUs agents operating out of overseas call centers, including India, were bribed by cybercriminals to improperly access and leak the sensitive personal information of Coinbase users. That information included names, email addresses, phone numbers, account history, partial Social Security numbers, government ID images, and financial data.
Coinbase and TaskUs were reportedly aware of the breach as early as January 2025, when TaskUs abruptly terminated over 300 call center employees for fraud-related reasons. However, affected consumers were not notified until May 14, 2025, months after the companies knew or should have known that user data had been exposed.
The lawsuit alleges claims for:
- Negligence and negligence per se
- Breach of implied contract
- Unjust enrichment
- Violations of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
- Unlawful business practices under California’s Unfair Competition Law (UCL)
- And seeks equitable, declaratory, and monetary relief on behalf of a nationwide class and California subclass.
We are committed to holding vendors accountable when their negligence compromises the security of consumer data. If you were affected by the Coinbase data breach and received notice from TaskUs or Coinbase, you may be entitled to compensation.
